The infamous became famous, virgin Mary

Angel visits Mary

The dream of every young woman, when they reach the age of marriage, is, to meet prince charming and have a royal wedding, and live happily ever after. Sadly, this does not happen to everyone. By their own mistakes or mistakes of others, women don’t usually find a prince charming nor have a royal wedding and certainly not a happily ever after married life. But, this was not the case for the young woman of Galilee, who was visited by the angel Gabriel. Mary, like any other woman, espoused to a man named Joseph was waiting for the marriage to be consummated and to carry on her life.

Jesus is born in a manger

But, God had a different plan for her. The plan was not only humanly impossible but also humanly speaking, improper. This young woman, however, set aside her desires, doubts, plans, and purposes. And gave in to the will of God. Her obedience and faith made her the blessed woman among women. For in her the greatest miracle took place. In her womb, the Word became flesh. Her choice to submit to the will of God was not an easy one. Being in the center of God’s will didn’t make life easy for her.

As soon as she agreed to God’s will, her espoused husband decided to desert her. But, God intervened for her. Her firstborn Son, the Saviour of the world was sought to be killed when He was born. When HE grew up, HE got lost in the temple. When He began His ministry, He seldom came home. The darling of her life and the fruit of her womb, who did good to His people was condemned, crucified, and killed in front of her very eyes.

Jesus' crucifixion

I believe it was not until the resurrection, when the tomb opened and the Lord rose from the dead that Mary truly understood the scope of what the angel Gabriel told her, Blessed are you among women. Imagine what she might have felt when she saw the resurrected Lord. The every same Jesus, whom she carried in her womb, feed on her breast, laid on her lap, carried in her arms; the same Jesus is the Lord of heaven and earth. And Mary who obeyed God has become the Lord’s mother. Forever, she will be remembered as the mother of Jesus.

Jesus' resurrection

Mary, the mother of Jesus is a clear example of what God can do in our lives when we commit ourselves to His will. Though we might face crucifixion and death, with God there is always a resurrection. Therefore, commit yourselves completely to the will of God, you will never regret it. For His plans for us are greater and for our good.
