The infamous became famous, Bathsheba ( the wife of Uriah)
Sometimes, we become victims of our situations. We lack the voice to shout out the truth and the facts on our side. It is either that our voice is too small against our opponents or our voice is completely lost in the commotion of life. In such situations, we are left at the mercy of all those around us, where a few sympathize for us but many accuse us.
David sees Bathsheeba bath |
David sent Uriah to the frontline to be killed |
When she found out she was pregnant by David, she let him know about it. David made plans to cover his sin. If things had gone as David had planned, what could have been the outcome? David would have lived unharmed and untouched in the palace, while Bathsheba must have lived every day in guilt and fear seeing the child, that was born of adultery. But God chose to put things right. He sent His prophet Nathan and illustrated to David what he had done.
The illustration clearly declares Bathsheba and Uriah to be innocent lambs. Bathsheba had been innocent and ignorant all through her life-when king David summoned her when she made known that she was pregnant, not aware of the outcome. Again she was ignorant of the harm that might have fallen her and her son Solomon, when Adonijah( David’s son) declared himself as, king. She was still innocent and ignorant when she spoke on behalf of Adonijah after Solomon had become king. There are many such women, who are innocent and ignorant, unaware of the evil that lurks in human minds. They are pulled, dragged, pushed, and bullied by people more powerful and forceful than them. Weak and helpless they sway to the force of the winds that blow their ways.
The Lord our God, however, does not let these simple ones down. When she was helpless and voiceless, God sent His prophet to speak for her. He became a mouthpiece for this woman, He vindicated her when her husband died. He spoke for her to fulfill His promises to her. I believe, the Spirit of God inspired Matthew to note her down, for generations to know that she was just a victim. Even, in the genealogy of Jesus Christ, she is not mentioned by name, but as the wife of Uriah. God remembered not just her but also her husband, who was not a weak soldier that fell to the enemy, but a mighty warrior slain by the evil in a man’s heart. You might be one such innocent lamb, too timid to speak up and speak out but there is a God who speaks for you, who vindicates you and remembers you. He will always be your side to lift you up when people put you down.

King David is my the Best character in bible inspiring me in loving God with all his heart. This section of the story in the bible often let me thinking does the author had two minds.
ReplyDeleteDavid how was very stable in making decisions with God’s status in mind(in his marriage to Abigail) would ever perform such evil.
I couldn't even imagine our mother bathsheba would have been a victim of power raping by our king David.
Yet out of all these questions aside I was remembered of God's faithful love in restoring respect to our elders in the bible.
Yes bathsheba was King David's favorite wife and good mother who raised our King Salomon.
