If you can’t do the least!
In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus spoke about worrying. The same context is shared in the Gospel of Matthew. But, in this particular Gospel, Luke mentions the question of Jesus. “If you can’t do the least, why are you anxious for the rest?” Being anxious and worrying is our habit. Though we try our best not to be anxious, yet we can’t help ourselves. In our everyday lives, there is always one thing or other that makes us worried. Even if we have nothing to worry about in own our lives, then someone else brings things into our life to make us worried. But, why do we actually worry? We worry because we cannot do anything just like Jesus said, not even the least. Whenever I hear about a problem, the first thing I think of is, “What can I do?” If there is anything that I can do, then I immediately set forth to do it. It could be a phone call to make connections; money, if I had any. And, any kind of physical or moral support for the time being. But, when I find that I could not do anything for the suffering ones, then I immediately set off to do the next thing, which is worrying. Since there is nothing else to do, I let my anxious soul worry for a while. This of course never changes anything. However, I have given my soul some work to do at least. When I had done enough worrying, I let out a big sigh and calm myself saying, “Well, there is nothing I can do now, only the Lord can change these things.” Then I pray for the things I was worried about. Praying on the other hand does bring changes.
Jesus’ question had always been strange to me. How can someone not worry when there is so much suffering going on in our own lives and in those around us? But this context brought light to me, that we can’t do the least in some situations, not even worrying helps. So, the Lord has exhorted us not to worry or be anxious but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made know to God. (Philippians 4:6)
It’s not easy to stop worrying, but it is a choice that we have to make deliberately. Practice, to worry less and pray more. We can save more time and energy. If you are someone who worries all the time. Then, you must practice self-control to stop that habit slowly. I used to worry for hours and days in a stretch. Worrying made me realise my helplessness and weakness to change the situation, which in turn made me angry and upset.

When I realised what this was doing to me, I prayed and asked the Holy Spirit's help. Slowly, little by little my days of worrying became hours, then hours became minutes. I still have worries, but I don't brood on them now. The moment I realise I am worrying, I begin to pray. Though I don't see immediate results many times, yet I know I have committed it to someone who can actually do something about the problems. It is the same I ask you to do. Trust God, we can't do even the least, but He can do the impossible.
